The Kashmir Files is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language drama film[2] written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Produced by Zee Studios,[4] the film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus during the Kashmir Insurgency.[5] It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.[6] It was declared tax-free in multiple states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and became a box office success.[7][8] The film has been praised by critics for dialogues, background research, the performance of the cast, particularly that of Kher's,[12] but has faced charges of historical revisionism and unnuanced storytelling, in what many deem a ploy to foster prejudice against Muslims.
